If you’re looking for new tapware, you’re in luck: there is a lot more to choose from these days. Compared with major kitchen or bathroom purchases, like ovens or baths, tapware may seem like a minor component. But it has a big impact on aesthetics and practicality and can set the entire tone of a space.

Some prefer to keep things pared back with unobtrusive stainless steel, while others might opt to up the glam factor with gleaming gold or brass. How do you choose? Much depends on the style of your bathroom. Certain taps have a distinctively traditional feel, while others feel particularly modern. The finish can make a huge difference: matte finishes can work well in a contemporary space, brass feels more classic, while chrome or nickel can fit beautifully into practically any scheme.

There used to be no middle ground between Downton Abbey and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Many tap fixtures were too old-fashioned, while others were too futuristically modern. For those looking for something in between, however, there is good news, with disruptors like ABI Interiors offering premium mixers in simplified, classic shapes at accessible prices, while big names such as Winning Appliances and Reece continue to go from strength to strength.

When you’re ready to make your decision, you’ll find all the information you need in our pick of the tap suppliers, from high-end to budget and everything in between.

Best tap brands in Australia 2025

ABI Interiors

Since opening its first store in Queensland’s Burleigh Heads in June 2016, selling only tiles and rose gold and matte-black bathroom fixtures, ABI has had astonishing success. In 2018, it launched a brushed brass finish, becoming one of the first Australian suppliers to provide cost-effective PVD colouring for taps. There are now eight signature finishes to choose from and ABI has opened showrooms in London and New Zealand.

In 2022, ABI Interiors was awarded the prestigious Australian Export Award for e-commerce and last year it opened the doors to a state-of-the-art showroom on the Gold Coast, showcasing its impressive range of tapware. Its taps make an organic, sculptural design statement and are well priced and well engineered, using innovative technology and high-quality materials. Most fall under the price ceiling of $500.

The premium high-arch Elysian ‘Minimal’ mixer and spout has been a huge success. We also recommend the sleek textural Namika with reeded detailing and Kingsley provincial-look ranges. The Milani ‘Assembly’ tap and spout set is also highly regarded as is the multi-award-winning Aliro collection.

ABI’s designs feature durable ceramic cartridge technology, seamless temperature and pressure control, and a minimum 3-star WELS water efficiency rating. Finishes include Brushed Brass, Copper, Gunmetal and Nickel, as well as Matte Black, White, Chrome and Stainless Steel, making them feel like jewellery for the bathroom.

Excellent stuff, and outstanding service.
