Jamie Durie

Jamie Durie’s house on Sydney’s Northern Beaches was going to be a prefab that took three months to build, but ended up being a vast concrete new build on nine levels – involving 16 trades and 30 suppliers.

Life is a key concept in the finished home, which houses a growing family (two with asthma) benefiting from top-to-toe eco principles and biophilic design (there are 330 oxygen-emitting plants in the living room alone). All of it, from the EV-charging parking zone and eight more levels – a child-friendly rooftop garden, a mezzanine, living areas, sleeping areas, a gym and wellness level, a guest house (below the main house), a grotto underneath and a boathouse at water level – meet Jamie’s brief for “a functional, beautiful home that’s also kind to the planet.”

It may not look like much now, but this rundown 150-year-old riverside mansion in Melbourne’s Hawthorn is undergoing the transformation of a lifetime at the hands of Andy Lee and Bec Harding. Set to receive a stunning contemporary dwelling at the rear (accessed via an underground tunnel), the redesign of the Italianate mansion is headed up by architecture and design firm Flack Studios.

“It was actually a possibility to have the old house demolished as it’s in such disrepair. We didn’t want that. We are passionate about keeping that bit of Victorian history,” said the couple.

Floating over coastal bushland on Victoria’s rugged southern coastline, the home of AFL player Patrick Dangerfield and his family celebrates the joys of its setting. A world away from the roar of the football stadium, the undeniably special home – set in the same sleepy Surf Coast hamlet where Patrick was raised – provides a haven for the Brownlow medallist, his high-school-sweetheart wife Mardi and children George and Felicite (Flic).

Sally Obermeder

Reality TV star

Making her debut on Foxtel’s Real Housewives Of Sydney this year, health entrepreneur Sally Obermeder lives a glamorous life. So when she moved into a new home, she sought the help of interior decorator Claudia Lambert to find a style that best reflected the life she shares with her husband Marcus and their two daughters.

Nathan and Bonnie Hindmarsh, Lleyton and Bec Hewitt

Former NRL player and interior designer, former Australian tennis champion and actor

This is a star-studded home if we’ve ever seen one. First created by Three Birds Renovations’ Bonnie Hindmarsh and her husband, former NRL star Nathan Hindmarsh, this dreamy “modern coastal barn”, which sits on 2 hectares, was later purchased, and sold, by none other than Lleyton and Bec Hewitt, who continue to add to their impressive property portfolio.

Bec and Chris Judd

Model/TV presenter and former AFL player

Once an uninspiring 1970s flat-roofed brick bungalow, the stylish weekender of Bec and Chris Judd has come a long way. Located in Arthurs Seat, in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the hilltop home was immediately appealing to the couple. “It was on three hectares with rolling hills, two beautiful lakes and just incredible serenity,” says Bec. “We felt we were deep in the countryside, even though it’s only an hour’s drive from our Melbourne home.”

While the couple have since sold their Mornington escape, there’s no shortage of inspiration to be found in the interiors at the link below.

Magdalena Roze and Darren Robertson

Cookbook author and chef

Byron Bay-based foodie Magdalena Roze and her partner, Darren Robertson, chef and co-owner of Three Blue Ducks, spend a lot of their time in the kitchen. “We use our kitchen intensively all day long,” says Magdalena. So, when the pair decided to renovate their 1980s brick home, the pair decided to start with the kitchen and dining area, and then take a break to enjoy it before continuing.

Kate Lawrence-Parker and Luke Parker

Interior designer and AFL player

This hardworking pair is a force to be reckoned with, having completed countless renovations together in the last decade. Their most recent project, their first-ever development, marks possibly their biggest to date: a Matraville duplex kitted out with luxe finishes, contemporary style, and clever concepts.

Trent Cotchin

AFL player

With its soft, earthy tones, sumptuous layering and easy flow out to the newly landscaped backyard, the home of former Richmond captain Trent Cotchin and his family is casual but sophisticated. “The house feels very calm and exudes understated luxury,” says designer Morgan Ferry.

Darren Palmer

Interior designer and TV host

You may know him from Channel Nine’s The Block, but when he’s not critiquing tiles or playing good cop to fellow judge Shaynna Blaze’s bad cop, you can find Darren Palmer spending quality time with his family and dogs at home.

Although Darren has since moved on from this particular pad, he’s something of a property mogul and also owns a weekender in Hyams Beach, and is currently selling his more recent Bondi home as well as his Byron Bay holiday property.

Guy Sebastian

Musician and singer

Guy Sebastian’s home in Sydney’s east, where he lives with his two sons and wife, Jules, is brimming with urban-industrial style. The home itself is arranged in a U-shape around a central foyer, which sits raised within a soaring nine-metre void.

Karen Martini

Cookbook author and chef

Author, chef, food writer, and TV presenter Karen Martini (unsurprisingly) spends a lot of time in her kitchen, which sports four customised ovens. It’s also the place where she hosts family and friends, serving charcuterie and “a shucked oyster here and there” with “a quick glass of Chablis”.

Dan and Dani Reilly

Former contestants on The Block

Although they recently sold (and fetched a decent price), The Block’s foreman Dan and Dani’s sleek and modern home represented their refuge from the busyness of life. The neutral palette of the home was inspired by the nearby Mornington Peninsula coastline as well as the native bushland that can be glimpsed from most rooms.

Lleyton and Bec Hewitt

Former Australian tennis champion and actor

Situated on the glitzy Gold Coast, The Palms is more than fitting for ex-tennis star Lleyton Hewitt and his wife, Bec when they originally purchased it in September 2022 for a tidy $4.3 mil. The home exudes Mediterranean style and has been dubbed one of the most photographed houses in Queensland, so much so, that it’s now in the hands of new owners after the beloved Australian couple sold it in January 2025.

Deborah Hutton

Media personality

Deborah Hutton may have since moved on to new South Coast digs (which she plans to renovate, watch this space), but her classic Hamptons house in Sydney’s Bronte will remain beautiful. “My brief was a timeless, classic house that looked like it had been here for some time.”

Kylie Gilles

TV presenter

Located in Sydney, Kylie Gilles’ relaxed boho home – which she shares with her husband, Tony, their sons, and two French bulldogs – is equally as stylish as the TV presenter herself. “This is a house that’s designed to be lived in boisterously. With doors flung open,” she says.

Shaynna Blaze

Interior designer and TV host

Taking a leaf out of The Block’s book, Shaynna Blaze recently took to restoring her own 1890s property in Kyneton, the process of which she shared via a six-part series that aired on Channel Nine, titled Country Home Rescue.

Pip Edwards

Fashion entrepreneur

P.E Nation designer and co-founder Pip Edwards is right at home in her incredibly stylish and verdant renovated Rose Bay home. “There were big ’80s and ’90s vibes throughout,” she explains, “with a heavy focus on marble tiles, especially in the living areas, and a super-small kitchen. I had to completely renovate before moving in.”

Camilla Franks

Fashion designer

Layered with colour, flair, prints, and the trappings of travel, Camilla Franks’ (of fashion label Camilla) Sydney home is undeniably joyful. “My home is my sanctuary so it has to reflect my passions. I need to surround myself with inspiration for my work,” she says.

Shelley Craft

TV presenter

Industrial and vintage pieces, timber cladding, and bold angles come together in Shelley Craft’s relaxed Belongil Beach home, which was designed by Jase Sullivan (pictured). “It’s so important to create a home for how your family loves to live – not how you want people to think you live!” says Shelley. “It’s your home and should be your sanctuary.”

Mark Beretta

TV presenter

While he has since moved on to a new slice of paradise, Mark Beretta’s former home on Sydney’s north shore still sparks inspiration. Flanked by greenery on all sides, the circa 1907 home features warm elegant greys and custom-made pieces.

Khanh Ong

Media personality

But it’s in his small space kitchen in his Melbourne home that he really comes to life, cooking for his lucky housemate, Mickey.

Glenn McGrath

Cricketer and commentator

Having sold at the end of April 2022 for $8,250,000, the former South Sydney home of legendary cricketer and commentator Glenn McGrath and his family is exactly as beautiful as one would imagine. The house, he says, “appealed because it was on a large block, on the water, peaceful. That’s why I fell in love with the place.”

Tom Hawkins

AFL player

Situated on 62 hectares of land, this rural farmhouse has offered the perfect tree change for AFL player Tom Hawkins and his young family. While they have big things planned for their home, currently Tom and his wife, Emma, have their energy focused on the property surrounding it. “There’s always so much to do when you’ve got land – it’s never-ending – so we’re doing it in stages,” says Emma. “Stage one was to establish the landscaping and garden, and that’s well underway.”

Mick Fanning

Imbued with the trademark laid-back coastal style of Three Birds Renovations, Mick Fanning’s Hamptons-style holiday home is incredibly chic. “With its warm pops of colour, the nooks that have been turned into functional and inviting spaces, the art and the decor, it embraces all the elements of what a welcoming home means to us,” says Mick’s fiancée, Breeana.

Former AFL player

It was the home that almost broke the internet, and in late 2022 it sold for between $80-$10 mil to Sydney Swans superstar Buddy Franklin. Blessed with next-level views thanks to an elevated position, this spectacular architectural pad has to be seen to be believed.

Edwina Bartholomew and Neil Varcoe

TV presenter and journalist

Channel Seven Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew and Neil Varcoe are the proud owners of an idyllic sandstone cottage at a farm in Capertee Valley, dubbed Warramba. Surrounded by rolling rural hills and imbued with a sense of country charm, the pair lovingly restored the home, guided by advice from the locals.

“It needed a bit of TLC but the bones were still wonderful, so we certainly haven’t changed anything on the outside. The only real change was to make the bathroom a bit bigger, and we also had to replace all the floors.”
