Today, swimming legend Ariarne Titmus announced her retirement from swimming, sharing that she will be wrapping up her career as an eight-time Olympic medallist at age 25. In a video shared to Instagram, Ariarne revealed that she experienced health challenges in the lead up to the 2024 Paris Olympics – when she won gold in the 400m freestyle – that ultimately influenced her decision to retire. “It was the first time where I considered some things outside of swimming,” Ariarne shared.
“I never thought that Paris would be my last Olympic games,” Ariarne shared. “But having these 12 months away, I’ve had the chance to explore what life is like without swimming.”
“In the lead up to the Games, I went through some health challenges which, quite frankly, rocked me mentally. I’ve really had to look within and think about what’s most important to me beyond swimming. I’ve just realised that those goals and what I want in my future is now more important to me than swimming.”
“It’s a tough [decision] but one that I’m really happy with.”
“Today you retire from competitive swimming,” the Instagram caption reads. “18 years you spent in the pool competing. 10 of those representing your country. You went to two Olympic Games and ever better, you won! You achieved more than you ever thought you were capable of and you should be so proud.”
“You’ve just turned 25 and the time feels right to step away from swimming. The pursuit was unrelenting and you gave it every skerrick of yourself. You walk away knowing every stone was turned, no regrets. You’re fulfilled, content and happy.”

But it seems the 25-year-old Olympic gold medallist has plenty more to celebrate than just her multiple gold medal wins. The family home of Aussie swim legend Ariarne Titmus was listed for sale prior to her jetting off to represent Australia in the swimming pool at the Paris Olympics back in 2024 and ,while potential buyers were inspecting the home, the swimmer was achieving incredible feats in the pool. She walked away from the Paris 2024 Olympics with an Olympic-record-breaking 200-metre freestyle relay under her belt, as well as a gold medal in the women’s 400m freestyle and silvers in the 200m and 800m butterfly.
“I’m so proud of my efforts this week. Two gold, two silver,” Ariarne said of her time in Paris. “Couldn’t defend my 200, but certainly happy that it was my training partner that won and to be second to her is great. I’m just so happy with my weekend. I can’t wait for a big rest.”
At first it seemed that the Brisbane home she grew up in was unlikely to break any property price records after initially it was passed in at auction. However, the property attracted plenty of buyer interest during subsequent inspections, with its resort-like amenities and its prime location near local schools, public transport and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre drawing a crowd.
According to realestate.com.au, the four-bedroom weatherboard was custom-built by Lindona for Ariarne’s parents Steve Titmus, a Channel Seven Gold Coast News co-anchor and Robyn Titmus, a recruitment consultant.
The 445 square metre, four-bedroom family home, 8 Chelmer Street East, Chelmer was sold on August 16 2024 for $2.41 million. It was sold by private treaty by Ann-Karyn Fraser at Place Estate Agents New Farm after 141 days on the market. About the sale, the listing agent Anne-Karyn Fraser said “it is such a highly sought after suburb, given its location to the CBD and river, design and the fact that it is newly custom build.”
The home was last sold in 2018 for $570k.
SOLD!
The Titmus family home unsurprisingly features a swimming pool, as well as an abundance of living and entertaining spaces, all finished in a contemporary Hamptons style. The 445 square-metre four-bedroom family home and swimming pool (although not quite Olympic-sized!) was given a price guide of $2.35 – $2.55 million when it was listed back in June 2024. It ended up selling for $2.41 million in August 2024.
The beloved Aussie swimmer only moved out of her family home in December last year and presumably moved into the luxurious Teneriffe apartment she bought for $1.65 million in June 2022. The family also has a Gold Coast apartment that they rented out during Ariarne’s time at the Olympics.
